Empower Me is one of the only multi language communication energy conservation programs that both guides and measures behaviour change, while providing coaching on upgrading energy saving measures. This is possible through a peer-to-peer learning model that leverages community connections by working with trusted peers. Our Mentors are fully trained, well-connected and respected individuals from the community who guide homeowners through a one-on-one, customized energy plan, and share valuable information about home energy and important city messages.
Sponsorship of the Empower Me program helps our sponsors to gain trust and positive brand awareness in the communities we serve. As Empower Me’s funding partners, sponsors realize the value of truly connecting with new Canadians and ethnically diverse communities. The Empower Me program breaks through language and trust barriers in these communities by delivering messages through our Mentors -- trusted community peers.
Energy Mentors promote and implement the Empower Me energy conservation program. Our Mentors have deep roots and connections in their communities, and are trained to help program participants reduce their energy usage, improve home safety, health and comfort. All Empower Me Mentors are supported by our experienced program staff, who meet with them regularly, provide regular education sessions and ensure the Mentors have the knowledge, equipment and materials they need to do their job well.
Champions are often new to Canada and our way of life. The Empower Me Program helps them gain a better understanding of energy systems and government programs that may not have existed in their home country -- enabling them to feel more confident and familiar in the new community they now call home. The Empower Me program is delivered in Champions’ homes, in their languages, at their convenience and at no cost to them. Empower Me Champions learn to save energy, save money and to make their homes more comfortable and safe.
“This program is a gold standard for outreach and follow up with newcomers to Canada who don’t yet have a shared understanding of energy use and trust of local government services. Empower Me allows us to reach the diverse ethnic groups and recent immigrants that we otherwise cannot reach effectively. Being a funding partner of Empower Me is a legitimate opportunity to foster behaviour change.”

Empower Me's funding partners recognize the value of connecting with new Canadians and ethnically diverse communities. Governments, utilities and businesses all seek to communicate with these groups about energy, safety, and education. All partners benefit from a strong Empower Me program which provides the framework and delivery method by which their programs and messages effectively reach these communities.
