Even Marie Kondo can overlook energy efficiency from time to time. Here are some spring-cleaning tips that will not only bring you joy but will also improve your home’s efficiency and make you more comfortable!
Let’s take a look at that fridge
The cold winter months are over and it’s time to clean out that fridge. By removing expired and unneeded food it will allow the air to circulate and not overwork your fridge.
Check your sliding doors
Does your home have a sliding glass door? Check to see if the track is dirty. If it’s dirty it can ruin the door’s seal and create gaps, letting heat or cold air escape.
Looked at your fans lately?
Part of your spring cleaning should include taking a look at your fans. Make sure they are dust free and working properly. Try washing or replacing your filter to keep them working efficiently.
Open your windows
It’s spring, which means its time to enjoy those warmer days. Open up your windows and turn off the heat in your home. This will help your home air out any built-up moisture.
Speaking of windows
Take a look and make sure your windows and doors are properly sealed, they are known for air leaks. If you notice other air leaks in your home use caulking to seal cracks and openings.
Don't forget the exterior
Winter months can take a toll on your home, take a peek at your roof and siding. Cracks, lose shingles or siding can create holes in the building envelope. This can lead to outside air coming in along with bugs or small animals.
